Excellent switch box especially if you have many sources and only 1 or 2 HDMI ports on your tv. The build quality is excellent and it is easy to use. The options of using it manually or with the remote are handy. And, the fact that it can detect which source you are using and connect it without your input is even better. The included IR extender is an added bonus.
The only downside for me is The fact that it lacks an ON/OFF switch on either the device or its remote. Although the tiny blue LED light is not terribly bright, it does waste electricity and is a bit annoying at night when trying to sleep.
If the switch & remote included an ON/OFF feature, I would be much happier. Hopefully, the manufacturer will consider this option for future builds.
Would I recommend this HDMI switch? Yes, without hesitation.
No more plugging and unplugging all the hdmi stuff.
This box is great, good quality metal housing
Nice led’s on the front.
Comes with a remote but will automatically change as you switch equipment on.
You could leave everything on and use the remote to switch ports as well.
Highly recommended.
One thing to note if you intend on connecting multiple gaming consoles to one tv get this one, which has 1 hdmi out and 8 hdmi in.
The first one I purchased from a different company was opposite 1 in 8 out which is only for connecting multiple tv’s to display the same picture on all connected tv’s.
Hope this makes sense.
Do I really have eight HDMI devices on my desk alone? Well, seven, but who's counting?
I really needed to get a handle on things, and switching items back and forth when your monitor only has a few inputs is tiring.
I'd tried other company's HDMI switches and they sometimes worked, and sometimes didn't. Some of them were self-powered (with a power brick) and others were powered by the HDMI devices - which is sub-optimal.
This HDMI switch? It's the one I've always dreamed of, with all the features I need, and even a few I didn't realize were possible in this form factor.
First off: EIGHT HDMI inputs. That's so many HDMI inputs! So there you have it. Eight. And then one HDMI output. So you know, it's super easy to plug stuff in, and you really just have to label everything because you know you're going to forget which one is which when you've got eight devices hooked up.
But...it gets better!
This HDMI switch has auto-switching. So when you turn a device on, it switches to that device! I believe that's the extent of it, so it won't turn other devices off when you turn one device off, which is nice. It just does what you'd expect it to do. If you're just using one thing at a time, the auto-switching feature works like a dream. If you're going to be turning on multiple devices, and switching things around, you're probably going to want to label things, just so you know where the devices are.
Now, ignoring auto-switching for a moment, you have the remote, and you have the buttons on the switch itself. It's nice that, if you want to cycle through with the two "arrow buttons" you can do that. But if you know that you want to switch between 2 and 6, you can just push those two buttons on the remote or the switch. It's very responsive.
I've seen a few folks complaining in their reviews about auto-detection or whatever, but honestly, I use good cables and solid output devices, so I've had no issues whatsoever switching between: Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, Nintendo Wii U, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Apple TV 4K, and a gaming computer. It's possible that some of the lower end "sticks" might have difficulties, but so far, all of my higher end consumer electronics have been rock-solid. I do use good cables between the switch and the monitor, in addition to between the switch and the devices, so it's possible that the quality of the cables, and the devices, mean I have no issues. Try to run a Roku Streaming Stick or Fire TV Stick with a 50' cable, and you'll probably have issues. My suggestion, from experience, is to use the shortest cable necessary and for longer lengths, use higher quality cables to reduce signal loss.
Overall, I am very happy with this purchase, and I'm glad that I finally found an HDMI switch that both has enough ports, but is also durable - with a metal case - and an external IR sensor for the remote. It really is the perfect HDMI switch, at the perfect price.
This is perfect for the game room. This actually replaced a 7 in 1 switch and a 3 in 1 switch, as I replaced and removed game consoles, in the final lap of piecing things together, removed my Apple TV box from this switch.
For the game consoles, this is perfect. I turned on PS5, and it auto switched over, knowing where the power was. Powered down the PS5 for the PS4, and it auto switched again. Curiosity, I left the PS4 on and powered on X-1, and the power switched over to the X-1. Turning that off, it switched back to the PS4 still on. Not sure if the design was set this way, but it certainly worked as I was testing and playing with systems. This powered up by itself to the TV, as well. I was playing the PS5 controllers, getting them fit recharge, and hit the power button. I heard the console beep, the switch changed over, and the TV came to life. Again, wasn't certain this is a feature, but seemed to work.
The remote, however, works just fine. 1/8 jack to an IR receiver that sticks to the top of the switch, or without the remote, press the number button on the switch and it moves over, whether or not there is power to that number.
The top of the switch is a smooth design, I simply added label maker stickers to each number, when looking at it directly, identifies which number to the console connected. Good for my kids that play.
Only flaw I found in this was my Apple TV did not want to work with this. It worked with the 7 in 1, but this would not display. The switch understood there was power to the connection, but something in the Apple TV display through this switch would not show. No effect otherwise, as I moved my Apple TV to its own port on the TV, and combined the other 2 switches now into this one to fill all 8 positions. Works great for all the game consoles that use HDMI to display, PS, X-Box, Nintendo.
Outside the use of the Apple TV, I highly recommend this switch if you own multiple of consoles. I intended this to be solely consoles, as they are seldom used to the Apple TV everyday, and this worked just fine.
